Also known as the ‘Offiziolo Visconti’, this two-volume illuminated codex, made in the late 14th and early 15th century for Gian Galeazzo Visconti and his son Filippo Maria and now preserved in the Biblioteca Nazionale in Florence, is a Book of Hours, that is to say a prayer-book for the use of the laity, containing prayers and liturgical readings for different times of the day.
Exceptionally rich in splendid miniatures, heraldic devices and delightful naturalistic details, the facsimile conveys all the splendour of the original; the use of real gold leaf and the accurate colour printing does full justice to the art of great masters such as Giovannino dei Grassi and Belbello da Pavia.
